CARTOONS ON THE GREAT P.C.
SORCAR, SR.
As a sequel to his Cutting a Lady in
Half, which created sensation in London, this cartoon was published in
SUNDAY DISPATCH, London, April 15, 1956.
.
"We All Resign In Favour Of Sorcar"...wrote
Hon'ble Fazlul Haque - the then Chief Minister of United Bengal, India.
Mr. Haque was also known all over India as "SHER E BENGAL" - The Great
Tiger of Bengal. The above cartoon by Kafi Khan refers to the famous "Force
Writing" feat of Sorcar pefore the newly-formed Cabinet of the Government
of Bengal. The news got wide publicity in those days. It may be recalled
that Sorcar during one of his shows requested the Chief Minister Hon'ble
Fazlul Haque to give him a certificate signed by all the Ministers of his
Cabinet. This they readily did. But on the messages Mr. L.H. Colson, Commissioner
of Police, Calcutta, found that "All the Ministers had resigned in favour
of SORCAR", which of course they did not put down - but, necertheless,
it was in their own handwriting.
